Can you share a brief note about yourself?
I'm a lifelong tech enthusiast, inspired by my parents who both worked in the software industry. You could say a passion for technology runs in my DNA. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by how technology can simplify and improve lives.
With 16 years of experience in the software industry, my journey has been shaped by roles that blend innovation with impact. Most notably, I spent five transformative years at Xero as the Head of EMEA Hub, where I focused on expanding Xero's reach in emerging markets across the region. This experience deepened my appreciation for the role accounting and finance professionals play in empowering SMEs.
Today, I founded and lead Scope Solutions Middle East, where I work closely with accounting firms and SMEs to revolutionise their operations through cutting-edge cloud software. I’m also the founder of Accounting Refigured, Dubai’s only digital accounting conference, connecting accounting and finance professionals with the latest tools to stay competitive in a dynamic market.
Why did you choose to start a business?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit even within the businesses I worked for. It had also always been a dream of mine to have my own business. So when I got the opportunity, I had to snap it up.
Starting a business allowed me to combine my passion for problem-solving with a desire to make a tangible impact on SMEs. I saw a gap in the market for tailored, high-quality consultancy services that integrate software solutions to drive business efficiency. Launching Scope Solutions Middle East has given me the platform to deliver not only tools but also strategic guidance to SMEs navigating digital transformation.
How did you start your business?
The early days of Scope were a mix of excitement and intense learning. Drawing on the established reputation of Scope Solutions in Malta, I partnered with like-minded professionals to bring the brand to the UAE. I focused on understanding the unique needs of local accounting firms and SMEs, developing a client-first approach, and building relationships with accounting firms and business leaders. Leveraging existing networks and industry knowledge helped me navigate the initial challenges of entering a competitive market.
What do you wish you’d known before you started your business?
I wish I had fully understood the importance of adaptability in a fast-changing environment. While planning is crucial, the ability to pivot quickly - whether it’s refining a service offering or adjusting to local market nuances - has been one of the most valuable lessons. Embracing change as an opportunity rather than a challenge would have made some transitions smoother.
Did you have any support in your journey?
Absolutely. My business partners who had been through it all in Malta played a critical role, particularly in guiding me through the complexities of the winning business model they have in Malta and how we can adapt it for the local market. I also had contacts from the accounting industry here that were always willing to offer advice and insights into the needs of businesses like theirs. Furthermore, partnerships with cloud accounting providers like Xero and Zoho helped establish credibility. Additionally, family support and a collaborative team have been instrumental in staying grounded and motivated.
What is your greatest challenge as a business owner?
Balancing immediate client needs with long-term strategic goals has been the biggest challenge. SMEs often come to us with urgent needs, and while solving these is fulfilling, it’s essential to keep sight of broader transformation goals. Managing this dynamic requires constant prioritisation and clear communication with clients.
What advice would you give to your past self before opening your own business?
Trust your instincts, but don’t shy away from asking for help. Surround yourself with people who complement your skills and challenge your ideas constructively. Also, be patient - success is a journey, not a sprint. Building meaningful relationships and establishing trust takes time, but it’s worth the investment.
Reflecting on your path to entrepreneurship, what key piece of advice would you offer to aspiring founders ?
Be authentic and don’t be afraid to make a different noise in the market. In a world filled with businesses offering similar solutions, your authenticity - whether in your values, approach, or the way you connect with clients - will set you apart. Focus on building genuine relationships, delivering real value, and staying true to your unique perspective. When you embrace what makes your business different, you’ll naturally stand out and attract the right audience.
